Microsoft has confirmed that users of its Windows 10 operating system cannot uninstall the latest version of its web browser Microsoft Edge.

Microsoft released an update on its support site, and made clear that all Windows users will be directed from the old Microsoft Edge browser to the new.

The software programmer said: Users will have full control when transferring their personal data from the old Microsoft Edge browser to the latest version. We want to make sure that all Windows customers have the latest version of Microsoft Edge for the performance, privacy, security, productivity and support features it offers. However, I confirmed that it cannot be removed or the version changed back to the old version of Microsoft Edge since it is already included in the Windows System Update.

Many people ask why the company is imposing a product on their devices, and one of the researchers explained that the Microsoft Edge browser is the only way to download the other browsers that users prefer to use.

Microsoft opted for an incremental approach to the roll out process, but is now pushing the new browser for all users.

Once the transition to the new version is complete, users will no longer be able to uninstall the new Chromium-based Edge browser from their computers via the traditional method.



The new Microsoft Edge browser was launched in January, replacing the old HTML-based version now known as Edge Legacy.

According to Stat Counter, Microsoft Edge Legacy has only 0.98 percent of the browser market, compared to 65.89 percent for Chrome.

By switching to a new and improved Chromium-based version, Microsoft hopes to gain a foothold in the market.
