The importance of cyber security in our life

Cyber security is the topic that concerns the world now, because people live in a huge technological revolution that has led to the emergence of a good challenge facing family members, and therefore the increase in electronic threats, including theft, fraud, occupation and extortion, and therefore the matter leads to serious consequences that harm the individual and society, so I had to search to solve this problem through cyber security that works to prevent cyber crimes, and through this I will do a research on cyber security in which I will explain important information about the importance of cyber security in our life.

Cyber Meaning

The word “cyber” refers to anything related to computer culture, information technology, or virtual reality. Cyber means (internet space).

Concept of Cyber Security

It is a set of technical and administrative measures that include the processes and mechanisms that are taken to prevent any unintended or unauthorized interference by espionage or hacking to use or mis-exploit information and electronic data on communication and information systems. It also ensures the security, protection, confidentiality and privacy of citizens' personal data. Business continuity includes protecting computer equipment, information systems, communications and services from any change or damage.

CyberSecurity History

It started with Creeper in 1971. Creeper was an experimental computer program written by Bob Thomas at BBN. It is considered the first computer worm.

In 1972, the first anti-virus software was created, called Reaper. It was created by Ray Tomlinson to move across the ARPANET and delete the Creeper worm.

Between September 1986 and June 1987, a group of German hackers performed the first documented case of cyber espionage. The group hacked into American defense contractors, universities, and military bases' networks and sold gathered information to the Soviet KGB. The group was led by Markus Hess, who was arrested on 29 June 1987. He was convicted of espionage (along with two co-conspirators) on 15 Feb 1990.

In 1988, one of the first computer worms, called Morris worm was distributed via the Internet. It gained significant mainstream media attention.

In 1993, Netscape started developing the protocol SSL, shortly after the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) launched Mosaic 1.0, the first web browser, in 1993. Netscape had SSL version 1.0 ready in 1994, but it was never released to the public due to many serious security vulnerabilities. These weaknesses included replay attacks and a vulnerability that allowed hackers to alter unencrypted communications sent by users. However, in February 1995, Netscape launched the Version 2.0.

The Importance of Cyber Security

The importance of cyber security is based on securing critical information of the importance of individual states, both at risk, penetration and seizure, in order to maintain national security and preserve and protect the confidentiality and privacy of citizens' personal data.

Cyber Security Goals

1- Enhancing the protection of operational technology systems at all levels, their hardware and software components, the services they provide and the data they contain.

2- Addressing information security attacks and incidents targeting government agencies and public and private sector institutions.

3- Providing a safe and reliable environment for transactions in the information society.

4- The resilience of sensitive infrastructures to electronic attacks.

5- Providing the necessary requirements to reduce risks and cybercrime targeting users.

6- Eliminate weaknesses in computer systems and mobile devices of all kinds.

7- Filling the gaps in information security systems.

8- Resisting malicious software, which aims to cause severe damage to users.

9- Reducing electronic espionage and sabotage at the level of government and individuals.

10- Take all necessary measures to protect citizens and consumers alike from potential risks in the various areas of Internet use.

11-Training individuals on new mechanisms and procedures to meet the challenges of hacking their technical devices with the intent of harming their personal information, whether by destruction or theft.

Dimensions of Cyber Security

First: Cyber Security Military Dimensions

The importance of cyber security in this dimension stems from the danger of cyber attacks and penetrations that lead to the emergence of wars and armed conflicts, and penetrations of nuclear facility systems, and the threats that may arise from them to the security of countries and governments and lead to disasters.

Second: Cyber Security Political Dimensions

The political dimensions of cybersecurity are based on the protection of the state’s political system and entity, whereby technologies can be used to transmit information and data that may destabilize the security of states and governments as they reach very quickly to the largest segments of citizens regardless of the validity of the data and information that is published.

Third: Cyber Security Economic Dimensions

Cyber security is closely related to maintaining the economic interests of all countries. The interdependence between the economy and knowledge is close. Most countries depend in the promotion and prosperity of their economy on the production and circulation of knowledge and information at all levels, which justifies the dangerous role of cyber security in protecting the economy from theft and intellectual property.

Fourth: Cyber Security Legal Dimensions

The various activities carried out by individuals and institutions are related to laws, and from the emergence of the information society new laws have emerged that are the legislative regulatory environment that organizes the protection of this society and the preservation of rights in it with all its dimensions. and legislation.

Fifth: Cyber Security Social Dimensions

The open nature of the Internet through social networks allows every citizen to express his thoughts and access to various information and openness across all different cultures, and here lies the importance of cybersecurity in protecting and maintaining the core values in society such as belonging, religious beliefs, customs and traditions.

In this context, organizations and bodies work to spread the culture of cyber security and demand the cooperation of all members of society in achieving it to reduce the risks of cyber attacks and crimes, which undoubtedly extend the society as a whole and threaten its security and stability by destroying values and the loss of cultural identity.
