Note: Real-time protection is not included with the free Malwarebytes, which is why I cannot recommend using the free version as a standalone antivirus.
Malwarebytes also uses constantly updated virus signatures and advanced virus behavior analysis to detect potential threats.
Virus signature-based detection — which uses unique sets of data and bits of code to target viruses that have infiltrated other devices — accounts for only about 5% of the detection done by Malwarebytes.
Instead, along with its four real-time protection layers, Malwarebytes relies heavily on virus behavior analysis — looking at relevant program components such as architecture and behavior to identify and disable previously known malware and viruses.
This is a really amazing system that really sets Malwarebytes apart from its competitors. While most antiviruses have some sort of real-time protection and behavioral analysis, Malwarebytes takes great pride in these features (and the fact that they work really well) sets them apart from being “just an extra security feature” in a great protection against malware and intrusion.
